Role Mapping - How does it work?

Didn't find documentation regarding it. What is the idea behind it?

Hi Bruno,

it is actually identical to the "Dynamic Package" feature built-in to MDT. Just have a look in the MDT Documentation and search for "Deploying Applications Based on Earlier Application Versions". I found an old online version from BDD (http://www.microsoft.com/technet/desktopdeployment/depprocess/bddscenaad_18.mspx) but it's still identical.

The idea behind is to use a stored procedure to query SCCM for all applications that have been installed on the computer (In this case we query the "v_GS_ADD_REMOVE_PROGRAMS" view) before and then map these ARP entries to existing packages that shall be installed. As I personally prefer to use Roles for software installation (we have a couple packages that need to be installed in bulks and specific order) I wanted to have a way to map those ARP entries to Roles instead of individual Packages. That's what Role Mapping is doing.

But you are right, I need to write this down for documentation.

Thanks for the hint.
