Add the FrontEnd to IIS 7 as a new Application

To add the FrontEnd as a new application just
  • Open IIS Manager
  • Expand the "Sites" node, right click on "Default Web Site" and choose "Add Application..."

IIS7_AddApplication1.png
  • Specify an "Alias" (the name you would like to use to access the FrontEnd) and the physical path to the extracted content of the FrontEnd

IIS7_AddApplication2.png

That`s it already

But as I consider this a critical application, I recommend to disable Anonymous access to the webpage. But as Anonymous access is enabled by default you need to adjust the Authentication Settings.

To Do this
  • Open IIS Manager
  • Expand your Webserver node
  • expand the Sites and Default Web Site nodes
  • click on the MDT Web FrontEnd folder
  • click on Authentication on the right side

IIS7_Authentication1.png
  • Disable Anonymous Authentication (and be sure to have Windows Authentication enabled!)

IIS7_Authentication2.png
  • Click OK

The FrontEnd has now been prepared on IIS. Please proceed with the additional steps in the Installation Guide

What about IIS 7.5 for those systems running Server 2008 R2? I have followed these steps and several others on this site and still cannot get the web pages to load. I am running sql 2005 x64. System is fully patched and even has .NET 4.0 installed. .NET 3.5 sp1 will not install on this platform because .NET 3.5.1 is part of the OS already. Also basic authentication is not installed as the server is also our central reporting server for sccm. Any help is greatly appreciated.
